Myspace been around for a long time now and has caused a lot of media and user attention. It now has its new owner Rupert Murdoch who bought it for $580 million, it is also the fifth-most-visited site in the US, so the big question is just why is it so crap?
Now I am not talking about its concept – 20 million users plus just prove how popular an idea it is, I am talking about the website design and development itself. The design of the site looks like it was dug up from 1998, surely something can be done to improve this terrible mess?
Just take a look at what the W3C online validator has to say about myspace.com, you would think that such a big site would create something a little prettier. In the international French version of the site the logo background colour doesn’t even match the background of the header!
Even the functionality of the site is terrible, as regular users will probably tell you the site has suffered many major break downs forcing it to be offline for extended periods.
Maybe I’m just too used to all those lovely web 2.0 sites out there but anyway….

I totally agree with the functionality, my browser (FireFox and IE) often crash with MySpace. Besides that my bands myspace gets spammed with invites from bands from Madagascar or some other place.
But on the other hand, is the open nature (you can edit your whole page with a few simple programs, not supplied by myspace) not the main strength of MySpace? Making it available for bands and people to spam your account with a simple made bot? It’s interesting… It’s a blessing and a nightmare.
